2022 September Festival: Tir ha Tavas: The Cornish Year

September 18, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

£7

Tir ha Tavas makes a welcome return to the September Festival.

Formed in February 2013, Tir ha Tavas, which means “land & language” in the Cornish Language Kernewek, is Dee Brotherton, Myrghwyn Melynor and Dave Brotherton, Ilewydh Porthia, bards of Gorsedh Kernow, musicians and singer-songwriters based in St Ives, West Cornwall.

Dee and Dave are familiar figures on the traditional Cornish and Celtic folk scene with their band Bagas Porthia which often features guest performers but they also wanted to write and perform more of their own material including songs in the Cornish language. They are inspired by the beauty and majesty of the West Cornwall landscape and the recurring feeling of nostalgia felt very strongly by those who love Cornwall.

Dee & Dave along with special guest Merv Davey, former Grand Bard of Gorsedh Kernow will present ‘The Cornish Year’ in the Council Chamber of the Guildhall on Sunday 18th September at 3pm. Performed as a journey in music and words this new show celebrates Kernow, a proud and ancient land with a distinctive cultural identity.

Their previous show ‘Towl Ros’, about St Ives fishing, won a prestigious cultural award and was performed to sell-out audiences at Porthmeor Studios.

TICKETS can be purchased – HERE  or you can call our box office on 01736 798577
