It’s goodbye for now – the Guildhall concert hall is set to close temporarily from the end of September.
St Ives Town Council are excited to announce that the Guildhall hall space will close to the public on the 30th of September 2023 to embark on its ambitious St Ives Town Deal development project, as part of the £19.9 million Government ‘Towns Fund’.
The concert hall will close on a high, following the successful September Festival, save for a special memorial service to mark the passing of Harding Laity.
We have been planning the redevelopment of the hall for years and are looking forward to unveiling a sparkling new performance venue, retaining what makes the Guildhall special, whilst also enabling unforgettable experiences.
The 18-month project programme is on track and a planning application submitted for the works. We are closing now in order to prepare the hall so that work can start as early as possible in the new year, this will include an audit, moving things into storage, and bringing in a specialist to remove asbestos. Our reception, offices and Guildhall upper rooms will remain open.
We have worked closely with our regular bookers and other valued customers, including the farmers and artisan markets, to ensure they can continue to trade in the town. They will be at the Island Centre from the first week in October. We hope you will be able to support them at their new, temporary home.
Whilst we will miss the buzz of activity in the hall, we are over the moon to finally progress this ambitious project that will benefit all those who live, work, and visit our town.
We hope you will follow the project progress by signing up to the newsletter or through our social media channels – we look forward welcoming you back in Spring 2025!
