Some of our stories resemble Australian songlines\, the paths on which the ancestors of the aborigines sang into existence and created all the visible world. These routes were mystical\, and spiritual\, and every rock\, tree\, river or water hole is sacred. If they are not sung the land loses its spirit and dies. We have our own special rocks and stones and\, of course\, holy wells. I’ll be looking at some of our legends containing mythical journeys and the creation of bits of Cornwall. We need to remember them to keep our land alive. There’s an odd twist to this tale… \nAndy Norfolk is fascinated by ancient landscapes. He was the founder of the Cornish Ancient Sites Protection Network\, a trustee for the Rollright Stones and a chair of Sustrust\, which re-erected Carwynnen Quoit. He’s been involved for over 20 years in fighting against the Stonehenge tunnel scheme and has mapped holy wells across the UK. DESCRIPTION:When you hear the name\, The Three Degrees\, you immediately think of their most famous song\, “When Will I See You Again”\, a major hit record throughout the world\, topping charts in the USA\, UK\, Japan and most European countries. It earned the trio every conceivable accolade not to mention enough Gold records to make Fort Knox envious! \nMore than five decades on\, The Three Degrees have retained their precise vocal qualities and amassed an impressive list of hit records. \nIn 1972\, they aligned their recording fate with Gamble and Huff’s Philadelphia International label and hit the charts with “Dirty Ol’ Man”. DESCRIPTION:One of the UK’s finest Rhythm & Blues Bands\, Nine Below Zero\, formed in 1979 and named themselves after the famous Sonny Boy Williamson song. In 1980 they signed to A&M Records and released the seminal “Live at the Marquee” album. By the end of that year they had moved from selling out the Marquee to selling out the Hammersmith Odeon. In 1981 their first studio album “Don’t Point Your Finger” and the band made appearances on the Old Grey Whistle Test and the South Bank show. In 1982 they appeared on “The Young Ones” with the track “Eleven + Eleven” before releasing arguably their finest album “Third Degree” which features such tracks as “Wipe Away Your Kiss” & “You Can’t Say Yes And You Can’t Say No”. DESCRIPTION:Free for All event will take place on the 1st April 2023 in the Guildhall. This popular event is organised by the Town Council to help people find a home for goods they no longer need. \nWhen to drop off\nItems can be dropped off at the Guildhall on Friday between 4 and 6pm\, and on the Saturday morning between 9 and 10am.  Please don’t try to bring them outside of these times as we’re a busy venue and have limited storage. \nPlease\, Play Fair \nPlease only leave usable items which need a new home. At previous events a whole range of goods have been recycled including books\, clothes\, toys\, DIY equipment\, gardening items\, tables and chairs\, even kitchen sinks. These events are a great way for people to have a clear out and recycle unwanted goods\, and it’s also an opportunity for local people to pick up items that they need. \nWe cannot accept electrical items\, knives\, broken masonry or tiles\, or bulky items. \nWe really urge people to play fair – this is not for flytipping! \nBulky Items?\nWe will have a notice board in the hall – bring a photo of large items with your contact details and we’ll put it up and hopefully match it with someone who’d like to take it off your hands. \nThe Main Event\nFrom 10am onwards\, the doors are open for people to come and take away things that they need. No money changes hands – it really is a free-for-all. \nWe hope you have fun and help us reduce a little landfill.
