SUMMARY:St Ives Farmer's Market
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to St Ives Farmers’ Market – a community venture to help make fresh local produce available in St Ives\, Cornwall. The market was founded in 2008 and runs every Thursday throughout the year at The Guildhall\, Street an Pol\, St Ives – in the town centre. \nOpening times are 9.30am until 2pm. At the market\, you can find a wide range of local food and drink\, including fish\, meats\, vegetables\, baked goods\, plants\, and alcoholic drinks. We also have a range of quality crafts on offer. \nFarmers’ markets are good for the environment and good for the local economy. They reduce food miles – the distance traveled from farm to fork – thereby saving energy and cutting pollution. They keep money circulating in the local economy and help provide a livelihood for farmers and producers. They help build links between producers and consumers so that shoppers can have confidence in the food they buy\, and sellers can get direct feedback on the food they offer. \nThe market is operated by a community group called GULP – which stands for Great-tasting Unbeatable Local Produce. It’s a not-for-profit organisation that was set up to support local food producers and make local produce more widely available in St Ives.

SUMMARY:St Ives September Festival: Molly Hocking and the Bubble Band
DESCRIPTION:St Ives’ own Molly Hocking\, 2019 winner of ITV’s The Voice\, will be making a long-awaited home-town return to the stage. \nWith huge support from Cornwall and around the country\, at just 18 years of age Molly won The Voice – and a recording deal which saw her release the single ‘I’ll Never Love Again’ which went straight to No.1 in the iTunes singles chart. \nShe also supported Celine Dion in London’s Hyde Park but for more than a year her performance career has pretty much been on hold because of Covid lockdowns and restrictions. \nHer emotive single ‘After The Night Before’ came out last year with Molly finally unveiling it as she made a delayed televised return to The Voice as guest star on the live semi-final show. \n“I can’t wait to perform live again\,” said 20-year-old Molly. “My first big gig is going to be in St Ives\, my home town and I can’t wait for everyone to come and support and have a night of fun.” \nDespite not being able to appear on stage\, Molly has kept busy between London and St Ives and she said: “I’m in and out of so many writing sessions and studios and I just love it.\n“I love writing music and releasing but I’ve had nowhere to perform so I’m lucky that I’m getting to come back to The Guildhall and do a big gig here.\n“I’ve got loads of new music coming out\, loads of singles and hopefully an album toward the end of the year.” \nMolly will be accompanied in St Ives by the Bubble Band\, a collection of talented musicians who have played with some of the biggest names in the music world. \nFor booking information click here\n01726 879500

SUMMARY:Martin Carthy
DESCRIPTION:Martin Carthy \nLifetime Achievement Award – BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2014.\n \n(Unfortunately\, Eliza Carthy\, has a quite severe chest infection and so is unable to appear this evening as originally planned. ) \nHowever\, we’re pleased that Martin Carthy is looking forward to presenting his own Solo Show for you to enjoy at St Ives Guildhall this week. \n Martin is a ballad singer\, a ground-breaking acoustic and electric-guitarist and an authoritative interpreter of newly composed material. He always prefers to follow an insatiable musical curiosity rather than cash in on his unrivalled position. \nFor more than 50 years\, Martin Carthy has been one of folk music’s greatest innovators\, one of its best loved\, most enthusiastic and\, at times\, most quietly controversial of figures. \nHis skill\, stage presence and natural charm have won him many admirers\, not only from within the folk scene\, but also far beyond it.  \nTrailblazing musical partnerships with\, amongst others\, Steeleye Span\, Dave Swarbrick and his award-winning wife\, Norma Waterson\, have resulted in more than 40 albums\, but Martin has only recorded 10 solo albums\, of which the much anticipated Waiting for Angels (Topic TSCD527) was the latest. \nWhether in the folk clubs (which he continues to champion)\, on the concert stage or making TV appearances (he was the subject of the acclaimed ‘Originals’ music documentary strand on BBC 2) – there are few roles that Martin Carthy hasn’t played. \nPerhaps\, most significant of all\, are his settings of traditional songs with guitar\, which have influenced a generation of artists\, including Bob Dylan and Paul Simon\, on both sides of the Atlantic. \n‘Arguably the greatest English folk song performer\, writer\, collector and editor of them all’ Q Magazine\n‘Martin Carthy is a master of the ballad of substance\, songs that tell stories\, whether they are traditional\, his own or from contemporary writers.’ The Telegraph. \nTickets in advance : Standard : £18.00 \nUnreserved Seating\nTickets are non refundable. \nFor booking information click here\n01726 879500

SUMMARY:Free For All
DESCRIPTION: FREE FOR ALL – IT’S BACK !! \nAfter a two year break due to Covid\, a Free for All event will take place at 10am on Saturday 9th October in the Guildhall. This popular event is organised by the Town Council to help people find a home for goods they no longer need. \nWhen to drop off\nItems can be dropped off at the Guildhall on Friday 8th October between 4 and 6pm\, and on the Saturday morning between 9 and 10am.  Please don’t try to bring them outside of these times as we’re a busy venue and have limited storage. \nPlease\, Play Fair \nPlease only leave usable items which need a new home. At previous events a whole range of goods have been recycled including books\, clothes\, toys\, DIY equipment\, gardening items\, tables and chairs\, even kitchen sinks. These events are a great way for people to have a clear out and recycle unwanted goods\, and it’s also an opportunity for local people to pick up items that they need. But we cannot accept electrical items or bulky items and we really urge people to play fair – this is not for flytipping ! \nBulky Items ?\nWe will have a notice board in the hall – bring a photo of large items with your contact details and we’ll put it up and hopefully match it with someone who’d like to take it off your hands. \nThe Main Event\nFrom 10am onwards\, the doors are open for people to come and take away things that they need. No money changes hands – it really is a free-for-all. \nWe hope you have fun and help us reduce a little landfill. \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Everyman presented by Miracle Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Miracle Theatre presents Everyman \nDirected by Kyla Goodey\, with music by Dom Coyote. \nWhen your time’s up\, how will you account for your life on Earth? \nEveryman is riding high. He works hard and plays harder. He has success\, wealth\, good looks and is living the dream… until Death comes calling. Forced to take a chaotic pilgrimage\, Everyman becomes a man on the run\, frantically attempting to justify his life choices – but who will speak in his defence before his time runs out? \nEveryman holds an awkward mirror up to humankind and asks whether it is only in death that we understand our lives… \nMiracle Theatre brings Carol Ann Duffy’s electric adaption of the fifteenth century English morality play right up to date\, creating an intense\, exciting\, multi-media experience with live music\, projection\, choreography and a high-energy cast of 4. \nEstimated running time: 1 hour 20 mins \nWe are also delighted to welcome Cornish musician Mr Mogal who will be preforming a pre-show on the Friday and Saturday performances in The Fleapit. \n ‘The 21-year-old singer\, rapper\, songwriter and beat producer\, known as Alfie to his friends\, is a wonderfully talented purveyor of laidback hip hop vibes. From Falmouth\, he is influenced by Loyle Carner\, Easy Life and the late Mac Miller and harks back to the jazzy sounds of Arrested Development and De La Soul.’ –  Cornwall Live 2020 \nAge guidance: Everyman is an adult show! It contains some strong language and challenging themes\, so we recommend 15+ years. \nA new portable performance structure – The Fleapit – will create an intimate and safe performance space and provide a 360-degree canvas for Everyman\, transforming it into a completely immersive experience. With separate audience booths\, up to seven friends and family can come together for a great night out – to celebrate living! \nFind out more about tickets and read our FAQs here. \nTicket Information – £20 or £120:\nIndividual seats are priced at £20 per person – these tickets are unreserved seats and will be organised in booths on the night of the performance. Please be aware that you will be sharing a booth with other audience members. Face masks to be worn at your own discretion. Our team will try their best to seat friends and family together\, but please be aware this is not guaranteed. \nAlternatively\, you can book an exclusive audience booth for 7 people and get the 7th ticket free (£120 in total) – You’ll have the whole booth to yourselves….! \nOnline Tickets \nOr call 01736 797840 \n

SUMMARY:Budapest Café Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:The Budapest Cafe Orchestra (BCO) was established by British composer and violinist Christian Garrick in 2009. Led by Christian they play a blistering barrage of traditional folk and gypsy-flavoured music from across the Balkans and Russia\, Klezmer laments\, Romanian Doinas\, Hungarian Czardas and their own unique re-imaginings of some of the biggest pieces ever written by the greats. \nThey have won legions of fans through their magical and infectious performances. Evoking vivid images of Tzigane fiddle maestros\, Budapest café life and gypsy campfires –  plus a few surprises along the way –  hugely entertaining\, immense skill and profound musicianship. \nThe BCO is a small but impeccably formed orchestra of just four players combined to create aural alchemy so wholesome you would be forgiven for thinking a far bigger ensemble is at work. Two of the country’s most revered international soloists revel at the heart of proceedings. Accordionist exemplar Eddie Hession is a supreme accordion champion of Great Britain. In his illustrious career\, he has accompanied Luciano Pavarotti\, Placido Domingo\, Jose Carreras and Chris Rea.  Christian Garrick is one of the world’s most celebrated jazz violinists. He has played with the likes of Dame Cleo Laine & Sir John Dankworth\, Wynton Marsalis\, Nigel Kennedy\, Bireli Lagrene and Caro Emerald. Another member of the Orchestra is one of Russia’s most enigmatic musical exports. The Sultan is played expertly by Adrian Zolotuhin\, a master of the strummed strings of domra\, balalaika\, guitar and saz.  Veteran bass-man Kelly Cantlon has been in the business of laying down the low notes for many moons. Kelly found fame in the late 60’s as a Vagabond with northern soul sensations Jimmy James and the Vagabonds. \nCHRISTIAN GARRICK – violin \nEDDIE HESSION – accordion \nKELLY CANTLON – double bass \nADRIAN ZOLOTUHIN – guitar\, saz\, balalaika\, domra \n  \n\nAcoustically Electrifying” NME \n\n\n“Brain placebo” Times \n  \n\n\nTICKETS can be purchased HERE \n  \n\nPlease note when booking that this is a seated event. \nIf you require accessible tickets they can be purchased over the phone on  01736798577 or in person at our box office in St Ives Library. \nIf you are in need of assistance please share as much information as possible about your requirements at the time of booking so we can ensure that your needs are catered for when you arrive at the Guildhall. \n

SUMMARY:2022 September Festival: Lindisfarne
DESCRIPTION:THIS EVENT HAS SOLD OUT \n  \nLEGENDARY 70s folk-rock pioneers LINDISFARNE will headline the opening night of the 2022 St Ives September Festival at The Guildhall. \nThe Geordie icons will bring a classic five-piece line-up of long-time members\, fronted by one of the originals – Rod Clements on vocals\, mandolin\, fiddle and slide guitar. \nWith a repertoire of unforgettable songs like Meet Me On The Corner\, Fog On The Tyne\, Lady Eleanor and Run For Home and a reputation for live performance second to none\, LINDISFARNE’S power to galvanise festival and concert audiences remains undimmed and is guaranteed to get the crowd singing along. \nLINDISFARNE emerged from Tyneside in the 1970s and quickly carved out a unique place for themselves as one of Britain’s most original rock bands. Their pioneering sound\, combining acoustic instruments such as mandolin and fiddle with their electric blues roots\, proved the perfect medium to deliver the catchy\, memorable songs provided by the band’s resident writers Alan Hull and Rod Clements. Their first hit\, the Clements-penned Meet Me On The Corner\, paved the way for their classic Fog On The Tyne to become the UK’s top-selling album of 1972. \nLINDISFARNE’S unforgettable songs\, powerful live performances and unpretentious style led to worldwide success and an enviable reputation as festival favourites and the annual Christmas concerts they presented in their native Newcastle became the stuff of legend. \nThe original band called it a day in 2003 but now LINDISFARNE are back fronted by “original” Rod Clements and Alan Hull’s son-in-law Dave Hull-Denholm (vocals and guitar). The 2022 band line-up is: \nROD CLEMENTS (1969-present) Vocal\, mandolin\, fiddle\, guitars \nDAVE HULL-DENHOLM (1994-present) Vocal\, guitars \nSTEVE DAGGETT (1986-present) Vocal\, keyboards\, guitars. \nIAN THOMSON (1995-present) Bass\, vocal \nPAUL SMITH Drums. \nPlease Note: when booking that this is a seated event. \nPlease Note: St Ives September Festival has a no refunds policy. \nTICKETS CAN BE BOOKED HERE

SUMMARY:2022 September Festival: Emily Barker with Lukas Drinkwater
DESCRIPTION:Emily Barker is an award-winning singer-songwriter\, best known as the writer and performer of the theme to the BBC’s hugely successful crime drama Wallander starring Kenneth Branagh. \nShe has released music as a solo artist as well as with various bands and collaborations including The Red Clay Halo\, Vena Portae\, Marry Waterson\, Lukas Drinkwater and Applewood Road\, with whom she released a remarkable album of original songs recorded live around a single microphone and dubbed “flawless” by The Sunday Times. \nShe has also written for film\, including composing the soundtrack for Jake Gavin’s lauded debut feature Hector starring Peter Mullan and Keith Allen. \nEmily Barker’s album A Dark Murmuration of Words\, released in September 2020\, hit No 1 on the Official Americana Album chart in the UK and has garnered widespread acclaim. It takes Barker’s clear\, expressive vocals and warm acoustic aesthetic and subtly shifts her sound in the direction of contemporaries such as Laura Marling and Phoebe Bridgers. \nLyrically probing\, by turns both dark and optimistic\, Barker searches for meaning through the deafening clamour of fake news and algorithmically filtered conversation\, delivering a timely exploration of the grand themes of our age through the lens of what it means to return “home.” \nThroughout the ten songs that make up the album\, Barker draws connections between the familial\, the local\, and the global: a mother sings to her unborn child\, asking for its forgiveness on ‘Strange Weather’; ‘When Stars Cannot Be Found’ explores the humbleness and comfort of the night sky when far away from home. Other highlights include the nostalgic ‘Return Me’\, ‘The Woman Who Planted Trees’\, the gloriously defiant ‘Machine’ and the effortless album closer ‘Sonogram’. \nEmily Barker will appear at St Ives with Lukas Drinkwater. \nPlease Note: when booking that this is a seated event. \nPlease Note: St Ives September Festival has a no refunds policy. \nTICKETS CAN BE BOOKED HERE

SUMMARY:2022 September Festival: Brooks Williams & Dan Walsh
DESCRIPTION:Admired by both listeners and fellow musicians alike\, Brooks Williams and Dan Walsh combine talents for an extraordinary collaboration of British and Americana roots music on guitar and banjo. \nEach is a leading light on their respective instruments and they both bring buckets of charisma and talent to the stage. Add to that poignant songs and lively humour and the result is a truly remarkable duet. They will simply knock your socks off! \nIn 2020\, they released a video of the Jimmie Davis and Eva Sargent classic\, Columbus Stockade Blues. The response was instant and positive. With “You should do more of this”\, the predominant reaction. And so they have. \nWith a few gigs under their belt\, including Whitstable Sessions in Kent\, Maverick Festival in Suffolk\, and AVH Concerts in Derbyshire\, Williams and Walsh have officially combined forces. Their repertoire includes their own songs and tunes\, as well as classics from The Blind Boys Of Alabama\, Norman Blake\, Bessie Smith and Nanci Griffith. \nBrooks Williams plays guitar with ‘melodic virtuosity’ effortlessly combining old-time fingerpicking\, country flat picking and bluesy backbeats. \nBBC Folk Awards Best Musician nominee Dan Walsh plays British\, Irish and American folk music featuring a unique and dazzling take on clawhammer style banjo “Absolutely terrific\,” said BBC Radio 2 Folk Show presenter Mark Radcliffe. \nPlease Note: when booking that this is a seated event. \nPlease Note: St Ives September Festival has a no refunds policy. \nTICKETS can be booked – HERE

SUMMARY:2022 September Festival: Peggy Seeger
DESCRIPTION:“From the moment she stepped on stage\, Peggy held every person in that packed auditorium spellbound” – Tradition Magazine \nPeggy Seeger is totally unique. Sister of Pete Seeger (the great-grandfather of USA folk revival) and partner of the late Ewan MacColl\, theorist and practitioner of UK folk revival)\, she has carved a special niche for herself in both these countries. Trained in both classical and folk music\, her experience spans 55 years of performing\, travel and songwriting. \nShe’ll sing an unaccompanied traditional ballad\, follow it with a tall tale about a circus high-diver\, then launch into a topical song about drugs\, war\, hormones\, politicians\, unions\, women\, love or ecology. A multi-instrumentalist (piano\, guitar\, 5-string banjo\, autoharp\, English concertina and Appalachian dulcimer)\, she is probably best known for her feminist songs (such as Gonna Be an Engineer) and for The Ballad of Springhill\, which is rapidly becoming regarded as a traditional song. \nShe has been recognised and awarded throughout her career including a Grammy nomination\, she was the first winner of Women in Music Inspirational Artist award from “Music Week” and she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Folk Alliance. \nPlease Note:  when booking that this is a seated event. \nPlease Note: St Ives September Festival has a no refunds policy. \nIf you require accessible tickets they can be purchased over the phone on01736798577 or in person at our box office in St Ives Library. \nIf you are in need of assistance please share as much information as possible about your requirements at the time of booking so we can ensure that your needs are catered for when you arrive at the Guildhall. \nTICKETS CAN BE BOOKED HERE

SUMMARY:2022 September Festival: Tir ha Tavas: The Cornish Year
DESCRIPTION:Tir ha Tavas makes a welcome return to the September Festival. \nFormed in February 2013\, Tir ha Tavas\, which means “land & language” in the Cornish Language Kernewek\, is Dee Brotherton\, Myrghwyn Melynor and Dave Brotherton\, Ilewydh Porthia\, bards of Gorsedh Kernow\, musicians and singer-songwriters based in St Ives\, West Cornwall. \nDee and Dave are familiar figures on the traditional Cornish and Celtic folk scene with their band Bagas Porthia which often features guest performers but they also wanted to write and perform more of their own material including songs in the Cornish language. They are inspired by the beauty and majesty of the West Cornwall landscape and the recurring feeling of nostalgia felt very strongly by those who love Cornwall. \nDee & Dave along with special guest Merv Davey\, former Grand Bard of Gorsedh Kernow will present ‘The Cornish Year’ in the Council Chamber of the Guildhall on Sunday 18th September at 3pm. Performed as a journey in music and words this new show celebrates Kernow\, a proud and ancient land with a distinctive cultural identity. \nTheir previous show ‘Towl Ros’\, about St Ives fishing\, won a prestigious cultural award and was performed to sell-out audiences at Porthmeor Studios. \nTICKETS can be purchased – HERE  or you can call our box office on 01736 798577\n\nPlease Note: St Ives September Festival has a no refunds policy. \n  \n \n  \n
